Mint
 Known for its pleasant scent, mint is a plant species belonging to the Lamiaceae family. There are approximately 30 scientifically identifiable species. The mint plant, which can be cultivated worldwide, also has many hybrid species. In Turkey, many mint species are grown and enjoyed on our tables.
 What are the Types of Mint?
 There are many species of mint, many of which are grown in our country. The main types of mint grown in our country are:
 Water mint
 Japanese mint
 Hairy mint
 Pennyroyal
 Curly mint
 Apple mint
 In addition to these species, there are many cross-species. The most commonly consumed mint in our country is "hairy mint."
 What Are the Components of Mint?
 There are many varieties of the plant called mint. In addition to these varieties, mint exhibits a wide variety due to its propensity for hybridization. The main components of Mentha piperita L. (spearmint), one of the most important mint species, are:
 Menthol (35-45%)
 Menton (15-20%)
 Cineole (6-8%)
 Menthylacetate (3-5%)
 Mentofuran (2-7%)
 Essential oils (0.5-4%)
 The above-mentioned components are among the primary components of mint. In addition, mint contains over 200 other compounds. Of course, the proportions vary depending on the mint species.
 Peppermint is a plant rich in essential oils. Therefore, the essential oils found in peppermint are used in many areas, especially in the pharmaceutical industry.
 How to Use Mint?
 Rich in essential oils, mint has a strong odor. For this reason, it's used to create an aromatic scent in many industrial products (toothpaste, shampoo, cosmetics, medicine, etc.). In our kitchen, it finds its way into countless recipes. Other popular products include:
 Salads,
 Herbal teas (mint, lemon, etc.),
 Chewing gum,
 Carbonated drinks and
 Beauty products
 In addition to the products mentioned above, mint is used as a seasoning in many dishes. Of course, you can add a bit of mint, either in powder or in leaves, to any dish you like, depending on your taste.
